Training aims

General objectives

To improve skills and reduce uncertainties in the management of the electrocardiogram as a diagnostic tool in the field of accident and emergency. As well as the direct improvement in patient care, improvement in ekg management reduces the number of unnecessary inter-level referrals as it improves the decision-making ability of the professionals involved in accident and emergency systems.

Specific objectives

To understand the usual EKG characteristics of adults and special populations (children, elderly, pregnancy, etc.).
To correctly interpret EKG in accident and emergency situations and its importance in high-risk patient situations, especially those which result in clinical or therapeutic interventions that influence the patient process (primarily ischemic heart disease and arrhythmias).
To evaluate EKG in the clinical context with the ability to conclude if, following analysis, a further intervention is necessary on the patient (referral to specialist or emergency systems).
To understand electrocardiographic interpretation in special situations, referrals from paediatric and elderly care and the use of high-tech intracardiac devices (defibrillators, pacemakers, resynchronisation devices).
