Total teaching hours 19.00 (8.00 horas presenciales + 11.00 horas elearning)
Training aims

General objectives

  • To improve skills and reduce uncertainties in the management of the electrocardiogram as a diagnostic tool in the field of accident and emergency. As well as the direct improvement in patient care, improvement in ekg management reduces the number of unnecessary inter-level referrals as it improves the decision-making ability of the professionals involved in accident and emergency systems.

Specific objectives

  • To understand the usual EKG characteristics of adults and special populations (children, elderly, pregnancy, etc.).
  • To correctly interpret EKG in accident and emergency situations and its importance in high-risk patient situations, especially those which result in clinical or therapeutic interventions that influence the patient process (primarily ischemic heart disease and arrhythmias).
  • To evaluate EKG in the clinical context with the ability to conclude if, following analysis, a further intervention is necessary on the patient (referral to specialist or emergency systems).
  • To understand electrocardiographic interpretation in special situations, referrals from paediatric and elderly care and the use of high-tech intracardiac devices (defibrillators, pacemakers, resynchronisation devices).
