Training aims

General objectives

  • To train in the comprehensive care process of patients with heart failure from a multidisciplinary and inter-level care-continuity standpoint.

Specific objectives

  • To understand the actions to be taken in heart failure patients at every step of the care process.
  • To diagnose heart failure. To achieve this, the student will initially identify the signs and symptoms of this condition and perform a differential diagnosis considering other conditions which may cause similar symptoms. The students will then learn the most common complementary explorations for the assessment of these patients.
  • To recognise the different types of heart failure (systolic and diastolic).
  • To master heart failure patient management, including the periodic decisions to be made and treatment modalities.
