Course on organ donation and transpplantation in intensive medicine

In this course we study the existing organisational models in the field of transplant donation, brain death diagnosis and the screening, selection and maintenance of donors. The students also practise their communication, team work and social skills essential to these situations. It is intended for intern resident specialists in intensive medicine and, in particular, intern resident specialists in their final years of training.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To understand the skills necessary to carry out the protocols for the transplantation process and for organ and tissue donation, from the detection of a potential donor to transplantation.

Specific objectives

  • To acquire the theoretical knowledge of the concept and diagnosis of brain death, selection and maintenance of the organ and tissue donor, family interview and postoperative ICU management of lung, heart and liver transplanted patients.
  • To train and practise in order to acquire the skills to allow the implementation of the theoretical knowledge in daily clinical care.
