Training in advanced video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery

During this course, in an experimental surgical environment, students will work on an animal bioreactive model on the application of the thoracoscopy technique and its safe application on real patients.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To perform the video-assisted thoracoscopic approach in major surgery with correct clinical application.

Specific objectives

  • To understand the indications for performing VATS lobectomy techniques.
  • To understand the current contraindications for performing the technique.
  • To acquire specific skills in vascular dissection and bronchial pulmonary video-assisted thoracoscopic techniques.
  • To acquire specific skills in mediastinal dissection and lymphadenectomy video-assisted thoracoscopic techniques.
  • To acquire specific skills in conducting video-assisted thoracoscopic lung lobectomy.
  • To apply common approach techniques in thoracoscopic surgical procedures.
  • To acquire the skill competencies for endoscopic practice in thoracic surgery.
