Ultrasound in obstetrics

In this course the students obtain specific competencies in ultrasound and thus acquire the ability to detect fetal abnormalities and, through the daily practice of this technique, study fetal growth, invasive procedures and fetal therapy. Intended for specialist physicians in obstetrics and gynaecology who require updating in obstetric ultrasound and for specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology training.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To acquire knowledge and develop technical skills in fetal ultrasound and updating in obstetrics and fetal medicine.

Specific objectives

  • To acquire technical skills in ultrasound instrumentation.
  • To acquire theoretical knowledge of normal and pathological ultrasound in the first trimester.
  • To acquire knowledge of the 20-week ultrasound.
  • To understand the theoretical foundations of fetal malformations.
  • To understand the technical skills of the first trimester ultrasound.
  • To learn the technical skills of the second trimester ultrasound.
  • To learn the theory of fetal attachment ultrasound.
  • To learn the theory of the evaluation of fetal growth retardation.
  • To acquire technical skills in fetal Doppler exploration.
  • To understand the theory of twin pregnancy clinical management.
  • To study the theory of fetal hydrops clinical management.
  • To study the theory of invasive techniques and fetal therapy.
