Critical patient transport

This training aims to optimise the abilities of critical transport teams in order to achieve incident-free transport without detriment to the quantity and quality of support levels.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for the correct and safe transport of critical patients in all its different modalities.

Specific objectives

  • To become familiar with the different types of medical transport.
  • To understand the different means of medical transport and their impact on patients.
  • To understand the differences between primary and secondary transport.
  • To revise and manage the electro-medical and support materials for critical patient transport.
  • To stabilise the patient prior to transport (primary).
  • Delay criteria in transfer.
  • To plan transfers.
  • To recognise the minimal pre-transfer conditions required.
  • To collect and prepare the patient for transport (patient transfer from an in-hospital to out-of-hospital level).
  • To deliver the patient at destination (transport from out-of-hospital to in-hospital).
  • To manage basic medication during transport.
  • To understand medication conservation measures.
  • To intervene safely to solve the problems that may appear during transfer.
  • To communicate information concerning the patient and transfer.
  • To manage the required clinical documentation.
  • To understand the possible interventions to minimise incidences of adverse events.
