Critical patient applied pharmacology for nurses

This course is designed to improve the quality of care provided to critical patients and to increase care safety levels from an applied pharmacology standpoint. Students study the different principles of artificial nutrition for critical patients and cardio circulatory, respiratory and neurological pharmacology. This course is intended for nurses working in accident and emergency services.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To train students in appropriate pharmacological management in the main critical patient syndromes, focusing on adaptation to daily practice and the best available scientific evidence.

Specific objectives

  • To acquire adequate knowledge of pharmacological principles to anticipate and interpret their effects.
  • To acquire the necessary knowledge to prevent or minimise interactions resulting from the use of different medicinal ingredients in critical patient management.
  • To understand the main side effects from medication administration.
  • To improve critical patient safety by increasing knowledge levels on the different medicinal ingredients used.
