This mooc (massive open online course) modality course trains the student in quality criteria in patient radiation protection and operational radiation protection by correctly applying the principle of justification in the medical use of ionising radiation.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To understand the quality criteria in patient radiation protection and operational radiation protection and correctly apply the principle of justification in the medical use of ionising radiation.

Specific objectives

  • To understand the fundamentals and structure of ionising radiation, its applications and biological effects.
  • To understand the principles of justification and optimisation of procedures.
  • To be aware of the existence of quality programmes and the principles of radiation protection.
  • To identify radiation-associated risks and practice improvement criteria in resident clinical practice (the prescription of tests, the use and management of situations where ionising radiation "irib" may appear).
  • To understand the national and european regulations on the use of ionising radiation in the health sector.
